Tamare Piersaint
Dr. Piersaint obtained her doctorate in Counseling Psychology (PsyD), she is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). Her academic achievements include earning her B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Women’s Studies, as well as a Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling, and a postgraduate certificate in Health Care Administration and Management. Dr. Piersaint is the owner of Serenity for Youth & Families, where she provides behavioral health therapy to children, youth and families, with a vision and hope - “Helping you find Peace within the storm, and the Courage to make a Change” of assisting and supporting her clients on their recovery journey. She is also the founder and director of L’Union Fait La Force – Haiti in Pittsburgh. She has over 15 years of clinical experience working with diverse populations across the lifespan. She has provided therapeutic support and treatment to clients with Mood Disorders, Conversion Disorder, Chronic Pain, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Psychotic Disorders, Trauma & Stress related disorders, survivors/victims of Domestic Violence, as well as Substance Use and Personality Disorders, to name a few. Dr. Piersaint utilizes various evidence based treatments such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Alternatives for Families - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (AF-CBT), to support her clients. She receives ongoing consultation from the founders of these treatments, in addition to actively participating in yearly continued education to insure that she provides treatment that is person-centered, efficacious, and relevant to the changes in treatment. She augments treatment with biofeedback, motivational interviewing, transtheoretical approaches to behavior change, CBT for chronic pain management, and other treatment approaches to provide holistic care. In addition to her business affiliations, Dr. Piersaint is involved in various civic and community activities/groups. She is an active board member of the Immigrant & Internationals Advisory Board at the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS), primarily focusing on the mental health need and access to culturally and linguistically appropriate services to immigrants and refugees. As part of her membership, she has worked with board members on creating the Pittsburgh “Community Blueprint”, has advocated for support to local interpreters to address vicarious trauma, psychoeducation to the immigrant population, to name a few. She has held position as Chair of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association Graduate Students board (PPAGS), participating in advocacy days in Harrisburg, engaging legislators on concerns around child abuse laws, mental health treatment, while working with PPAGS on initiatives specific to advancing psychology and psychological services in the state. Dr. Piersaint is an adjunct faculty member at Carlow University, a member of the American Psychological Association (and various divisions), a lifetime member of the Psi Chi National Psychology Honor society, a member of The Association of Black Psychologist, a member of the Association for Women in Psychology, Member of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association Committee on Multiculturalism, as well as held past membership as either board member or general member for the UPMC & Community Patient Relations Committee, the Allegheny County Minority Emergency Preparedness Task Force, Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Commission on Rehabilitation Counseling, the International Society for Bipolar Disorders, American Counseling Association, and various community based organizations.
